Inspiring Suitcases filled with exciting treasures to explore

A suitcase makes a powerful provocation for any child. What could be in my Magic Suitcase today? Fill it with props for a story, small world creation or items that match the theme or topic that you are learning.

Our Suitcase came from TTS Group but you can pick this style up on Ebay or in Charity Shops.

We then use various items that we already have to fill the suitcase depending on what we want to do that day. The items can be left loose in the Suitcase for the children to discover, explore and set up themselves. Discussions can be had around the objects and then stories and can made and told.

We often add Recordable Talking Buttons, also from TTS Group, to record parts of the story onto or to add sound effects – these make a great ICT addition.

Allow children to collect items of their own to put into the suitcase. What would there favourite top 10 items be to take on holiday with them? Discuss these items and how the selection would differ to someone else.

Add numbers, colours, curious kitchen utensils – can children identify each object? How would they use it?

7 Magical provocation ideas in a Suitcase

Fairy Village

Our Fairy village was a really magical set up. The fairies made their way across the bridge, encountering the wicked witch on the way, making it just in time for tea! A real invitation to play that included ICT elements for adding sound effects such as the Wicked Witch!

Pirate Suitcase

Pirates are a popular theme with my two boys so this Pirate themed suitcase was a real hit. They loved the Treasure Map, Key and the Treasure! I even included some rolled up papyrus paper for them to create their own map. I included two stories so that we could sit in the garden and read too.

Dragons in a suitcase
