Fairies are a popular theme. We love tuff tray play ideas. Our tuff tray gets used for a variety of activities and themes. This time is was small world play with fairies and our recycled cardboard treehouse.
We used an artificial grass mat insert in our Tuff tray and then gathered as many natural items as we could find:
- Sticks
- Stones
- Pine cones
- Petals
- Ivy
- Leaves
- Flower heads
- Wood slices
The piece that steals the show is the handmade recycled cardboard treehouse. This has been a big hit and can be used in a variety of scenes set up in different ways. We have loved seeing how others have been inspired by our treehouse and made their own.
Find out how we made ours in more detail on our blog post: How to make a Recycled Cardboard Treehouse
We perched the treehouse on top of a terracotta plant pot and set a little pathway and sticks up to it.
We accessorised it with petals and pine cones, miniature terracotta plant pots and miniature fairy potion bottles. We even added miniature bunting to our treehouse and ivy.

The fairies we made using little wooden heads, pipe cleaners, small flowers for their dresses and pressed flowers for little flower crowns on top of their heads. We used feathers for their wings. These were glued together safely with super glue. Please be careful with small parts.
