Papier Mache Volcano

This Papier Mache Volcano was made for a creative homework as part of a school class themed project.

You will need:

  • Old newspaper
  • PVA glue and water
  • Paint brushes
  • cardboard strips
  • Toilet roll tube or kitchen roll tube
  • Ready Mix Paint

First, we ripped our newspaper into 1 inch strips and mixed our PVA 1/2 PVA to 1/2 water in a bowl.

Next we started to construct a frame using a toilet roll tube and cardboard strips on a cardboard base. We then covered this framework with the newspaper strips – painting on the PVA mixture under the strips and then coating each layer. We built layers of this up until all was adequately covered – this takes a lot of paper strips!

Once completely dry – you may need to leave overnight, we then painted our volcano with ready mix paint.

We dripped the paint down from the top of the volcano to give a lava effect! You could also add red, orange and yellow tissue paper to the top for a large eruption!
