Papier Mache Dragon Egg

Papier Mache is a great medium to work with, we use it quite a lot and have made Caves, Volcanoes, and Dragon and Dinosaur eggs. This time, we have made a Dragon Egg, although it can be easily re-purposed to a Dinosaur Egg.

You will need:

  • Old Newspapers
  • PVA glue and water
  • Paint brushes
  • Ready Mixed Paint
  • A balloon
  • A mixing bowl

Shred your newspaper into approx 1 inch strips and mix your PVA – 1/2 PVA to 1/2 water.

Blow up your balloon and tie, then cover the balloon in the strips of paper and pva mixture until you have done 3 layers in total. Allow this to dry overnight – we pegged ours up by the knot to dry.

Next, we cut the top so that we could put our dragon inside, but you could leave it whole.

We painted our egg, splattering it with a contrasting colour and then let it dry.

You could make a variety of eggs and add them to a nest as Dragon Eggs or Dinosaur Eggs for children to discover, some with broken shells.
